In being on the look out for nice Ukuleles I see the work of a number of full and part time luthiers. The instruments they make look very nice and worthy of note.
Bob Headford - HeadFord
Bob Headford comes from Kent, UK, and he has been producing Banjoleles for sale since 2011. Though he says he makes other sizes I have only seen Soprano, Concert and Tenor scale. I have also only ever seen them for sale on UK eBay (though I have seen quite a few there now).
John McKenzie
Based in Dolton, Devon, England he is a carpenter by trade and this is still his profession though he is semi-retired now. He is self taught in the art of luthiery and initially learned by making kit instruments in the 1990's. He went on to make a number of Guitars at this time but stopped to concentrate on the joinery business. In 2013 during a slow period in business he decided to finish a Tenor Guitar he had started 15 years previously and also have a go at making a Ukulele He then went on to make more for friends and family using non-tropical and reclaimed woods. He makes them now as a custom order but still using only non-tropical and reclaimed woods, and can be contacted by email. Most of his output is Tenor scale
