In being on the look out for nice Ukuleles I see the work of a number of full and part time luthiers. The instruments they make look very nice and worthy of note.
Based in California, (in the Ouja Valley believe it or not!), Brian learned luthiery in Hawaii under Mike Chock, and has been making his own Ukuleles since 2007. Currently he produces Long Neck Sopranos, Concerts, Tenors and Jumbo Tenors (though he calls them big Tenors and little Tenors) He describes his work thus "All of my ukuleles are of the finest woods, hand picked, with a hand rubbed oil finish for a satiny look and softer feel. I pride myself on simple design with the emphasis on feel and playability. I like to use Peghed tuners."
Having learned luthiery in the past and coming from Virginia, Rick started making instruments again in 2010 He makes Guitars and Ukuleles but I believe only part time.
Richard (Dick) Young
He is a luthier from Greenville, South Carolina. He makes most types of fretted chordophone and his output includes Ukuleles and Taropatches
