In being on the look out for nice Ukuleles I see the work of a number of full and part time luthiers. The instruments they make look very nice and worthy of note.

Don Morrison - DonMo

A sometimes Blues musician and self taught luthier from Adelaide, South Australia he specialises in steel resonator instruments. He makes the standard sort of nickel plated shiny resonators, on which he can do some impressive etching but he also make bodies from recycled galvanised steel sheet which always come with a "distressed" look and he calls "rust buckets". I don't know when he started making instruments but in 2009 he says he had made nearly 50 Ukuleles along with the Guitars and Mandolins

Dennis O'Neil - Southern Cross

A retired cabinetmaker from Waikato, North Island, New Zealand, he started with an ordinary Ukulele but now specialises in Banjo Ukuleles. At the moment he is producing them on spec and selling them but would take commissions - Click here to contact

Scott Wise

Based in Margaret River, Western Australia, he has been making Ukuleles since 1979. He makes Guitars of all kinds, Violins and Mandolins plus the Ukulele precursors from Portugal and Spain and some of the Ukuleles other close relatives such as Cuatros and Tiples. When it comes to Ukuleles, he make the whole range of scales from Sopranino, (which he calls "Piccolo") through to Bass Baritone
